The StealthStation System ™

Pinnacle Health Hospitals (Harrisburg and Polyclinic) has made a technological leap forward  with the purchase and implementation of a sophisticated image guided surgery system for use during cranial and spinal surgeries.

With the development of the StealthStation Treatment Guidance Platform, a new era in surgical navigation has begun. An area that takes advantage of high-speed computer systems and delivers unprecedented visualization of anatomical features.

The StealthStation™ Treatment Guidance platform utilizes imaging data from CT or MRI Scanning devices to build a 3-D image model of a patients head or spine. This model is then electronically matched to the patient's anatomy during surgery, which then allows the neurosurgeon to virtually  "see through tissue" and accurately determine the precise location of surgical instruments with respect to critical anatomy.  This technology is known as computer-assisted or image-guided surgery.

"With a device such as this, neurosurgeons can use computer imaging and dynamic referencing to plan and perform precisely-localized biopsies and also delicate open procedures with smaller incisions than previously attainable," said Roger H. Ostdahl, M.D. of Neurological Surgery, Ltd. and a member of Pinnacle Health Hospitals' medical staff.

The three-dimensional volume displayed by the StealthStation Treatment Guidance Platform can be observed as standard orthogonal radiological images (coronal, sagittal, axial), or navigational images which track the location and trajectory of an instrument in use. A three-dimensional image is also constructed which may be manipulated and observed from any angle.
